The Other- Worldly place called Writing on Stone

Sunset at Writing on Stone Alberta Canada

When my brother and I were just children my mother told us we were going to go camping at Writing on Stone an Alberta, Canada, provincial park.

Entering into this place is like stepping onto the moon, the planet mars, or definitely some other-worldly place!

It is outside of the town of Milk River, in Alberta, Canada. There are no luxury resorts here, but what a great excuse to rent a luxury rv!

Luxury RV trailer motor home

A two storey rv with loft , takes all the discomfort out of camping. Actually makes you feel like your in your own mini cabin.

Many feature a full kitchen, a regular size shower and full size fridge.

The 180 degree view really opens up the interior space. I highly recommend it.

Writing on stone is located in the Milk river Valley in Southern Alberta, Canada.

The land is a river valley where the wind erosion has swept away the sediments to form “Hoo-Doo’s” .

They have such an other-worldly presence to them. And actually different native tribes traditionally in the area have sent warriors here for Spiritual journeys .

Petroglyphs at Writing on Stone Alberta Canada

The history of the area has been recorded extensively, by the native peoples petroglyphs in the rocks.

Which is how Writing On Stone, gained its name.

The area is unbelievably breathtaking at golden hour.

Children love it here, playing in the hoo-doos.

As do adults!

In the summer months, there are guided tours you can take.

The provincial guide will explain what is known, and still unknown about the petroglyphs.

And about the journey of the park becoming a World Heritage Site.

The area is vast and it will take multiple days to explore it all.

Some trails are easy and clearly marked for children and elderly explorers.

While other areas you can choose to make your trail, as easy or as difficult as you desire.

Some areas of the rock are fenced off for Preservation of the Petroglyphs.

This is the largest concentration of Petroglyphs that have been found in North America.

And the meanings of many Petroglyphs are still unknown.

These are definitely the selfies you need on your bucket list!

One thing is certain.

Your visit here will be truly unforgettable.

I highly recommend this other-worldly place , on your bucket list.
