Avoiding the Tree of Death in Puerto Vallarta

Los Veranos Canopy Tour – Puerto Vallarta Zipline

I thought this was going to be a cute little zipline day.

It wasn’t.

It was adrenaline, jungle chaos, and one moment where I questioned every life decision that got me there.

I’m actually very tall (5’10” woman) so I don’t even like getting up on the third step of a step latter. When I reach that step, I’m already like wayyyy up there!

And somehow thought it would be super fun to take the beautiful afternoon in Puerto Vallarta, to flail down One of the highest, and the second longest, zip lines in the world, with the possible hopes it would get me over my fear.

Um . Well..

My fiancé pays for the trip to this zip line that goes mountaintop to mountaintop and he strictly says “babe if I’m paying for this you better be ready to do it?”

I’m like “ oh ya! I got this!”

He was like “uh huh ?…”

The day started out like any other day. A gorgeous sunny day, waking up in our stunning resort on the ocean, at Canto del Sol.

Although you can pay for excursions (day trips) through the resort, you can usually find the exact same or very similar day trips being sold by local guides on the beach. We bought our day trip to the Zipline through one of the guides on the beach

It was totally legit. We met our tour guides for the trip right at the entrance to our resort. , and got into a small trip bus with others from our resort whom had gathered at the same meeting spot, and began our wild trip from there.

The Zipline & the Tree of Death

After bussing through the jungle and hiking for around 25 minutes we finally reach the Zipline platform .

As we approach the first platform, I’m like Oh M G!! It looks like it was made by shoving a plank of wood , into the top of a massive tree, and like 15 people are teetering on it!?….Fucking great….

It’s my turn to step to the platform, I look down. Nope. Fuck. Should definitely NOT have done that.!

Now I’m dizzy I think I might faint .

I turn around and BAM!! Right into my fiancé with a massive growly MEAN MAD pissed off look on his face !

I’m like oh!…ya, ummm ….nevermind ….

The jungle was quiet, except the cable humming in the wind. The kind of chill you get when a predator is around..

So I freaking leap! … And Scream across the whole god damn canyon!

Next line.

Screaming bloody murder again.

The third jump is called “NO WAY BACK”.

I’m like wait “wtf!?”

The Mexican guide who’s assisting me and about as tall as my waist height is like, “yes mam! it’s called that cause once you jump off this platform you have to keep going down , there’s no way to travel back otherwise.”

Shit!! Now I’m like wtf did I do to myself !?.

I’m hot . I’m panicking . These two Ziplines we just did were little compared to this next one.

I’m looking off the next platform and it’s like a string into the abyss.. you can’t even see the next platform!

I’m like wait. Be serious. Your life is worth more than this, maybe just explain to your man.. I turn around — BAM!! I swear steam was gonna come out his ears !

I was like “ohhhh kayyyy then … nevermind, I’ll just keep those thoughts to myself!” ..

I Turned back & jumped!

Screamed my lungs out the whole way down the mountainside.

The whole valley heard me .

No joke.

Worse part was you have a life jacket vest that connects to the zip line (looks like a fucking string) , and it’s a god damn rickety wheel with a stick on each end to hold onto ??

And I’m like HOW do u SLOW DOWN!?

They kept telling me to twist my arms side to side so the pressure from the side of the wheel on the cable friction will slow it down??

But my arm strength.. well… I’m more of a soccer player, than an arm wrestler….

So every zip, I flew across the valley and come screaming into the tree that the zip line was tied too! And I mean Full tilt!

I’d round the corner into the next valley going Mach 10 and suddenly see 3 little Mexican guides all standing there, placing their bodies in front of the TREE OF DEATH, arms out like,

“Oh señor… she coming in hot!”

And looking scared…

And I’d smash into them like little puffed-up airbags! …

Sometimes like bowling pins!…

My ex thought it was so funny, he bought the video of us doing it. I really wish that I still had the footage. It was epic.

10/10

Would SCREAM again.
